3 Ways to Achieve Spiritual Enlightenment

A Woman Standing Under the Sky with Head Bowed and Both Hands Folded in Prayer

The idea of spiritual enlightenment is different for different people. Geography drives perspective, so it’s only fair for it to drive your idea of spiritual enlightenment. Be that as it may, the pathway to this elusive concept converges at various points.

Here’s how you can achieve spiritual enlightenment, regardless of your religious affiliation or location, as per Spiritual Awareness and Well-Being: A Pathway to Enlightenment.

1. Embrace Your Fears

Embracing your fears is tantamount to embracing your faith. When you let the fear of oblivion rule over your life, you risk giving rise to an existential crisis.

In an increasingly skeptical world, you can have internal, near-crippling fears. For most, it’s the idea of oblivion after death. Take a page out of Proverbs 3:5-6, and embrace such fears. The day you do that is the day you’ll envision your path to enlightenment.

2. Turn Off Your Thoughts

Drown out all the noise to hear the one voice that’s grown fainter over the years. You can do this through prayer, meditation, or any other form of worship that requires you to stop whatever you’re doing to give thanks, make conversation, or plead your case in front of the divine Spirit.

Be sure to turn off your brain and drown out all the worldly prejudice, questions, and doubts living rent-free in your mind. The day you start doing that is the day you’ll find it easier to expel these distractions and fears from your life.

3. Escape the Clutches of Material Things

Parting ways from the mundanities ruling your life means not letting them affect you anymore. You don’t have to physically separate yourself from material things, for they are, to some extent, the things you need to survive in this world.

For instance, you may need money to make ends meet. However, the day you desire more of it than you could need, is the day you let them rule your actions.

A desire for material possessions can make people do horrible things. You are owned by them and thereby cannot grow spiritually.

Rising above them means rising above your ego, doing the right thing no matter how difficult, and being honest with yourself, others, and, most important, God.

Find inner peace and escape the anxiety and panic that comes with holding on to material things.
